Watering Restrictions

To conserve water, please adjust all irrigation clocks according to the days permitted in your assigned watering group. The assigned watering groups are mandatory for all water customers. 

In addition to watering on your assigned days, keep the following in mind when setting a schedule on your irrigation clock:

• From May 1 through Aug. 31, landscape watering is prohibited from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Sprinkler watering on Sundays is prohibited.
• Watering restrictions also apply to drip irrigation. While you may water any day of the week, watering may not exceed the maximum number of days per week allowed by the restrictions. Experts agree that running drip irrigation less frequently is much better for plants than daily watering.
• In the summer, we recommend sprinkler watering four days per week and increasing the schedule only if your landscape needs more water.
• Watering with a handheld hose and supervised testing of your irrigation system are allowed any time.
• Watering new or reseeded landscapes daily for up to 30 days is allowed once per calendar year. Call (702) 633-1216 before the planting takes place so we can make note of this on your water account. 
• For lawns, use the cycle-and-soak method. On your assigned watering days, water in three 4- minute cycles, with about an hour between each cycle if using pop-up sprinklers. Water for about 12 minutes each watering cycle if using rotating sprinkler heads. For more information on how and when to water your landscape, visit www.snwa.com.
• Don't water on windy or rainy days. Winds can send sprinkler water in unintended directions, saturating the sidewalk more than the lawn. Watering during rainy periods can cause soil over-saturation and wasteful runoff.
• Don't forget to set your irrigation clock in accordance with the time changes! Daylight savings is the second Sunday in March at 2 a.m., set your clocks one (1) hour ahead. Standard time change is the first Sunday in November at 2 a.m., set your irrigation clocks one (1) hour behind.

Watering on days other than assigned watering days, during restricted hours or other ways of wasting water such as a leak on property or unnecessary use are considered water waste and may result in a notice of violation and/or a fine assessed to your monthly water utility bill. Pool and Hot Tub Draining

Because storm drains flow untreated water into Lake Mead, it is unlawful for any person to drain or empty any water from a swimming pool, hot tub and/or whirlpool bath into the street or storm drain where the publicly owned sanitary sewer is available. 

Water from a swimming pool, hot tub and/or whirlpool bath shall be discharged into the publicly owned sanitary sewer through a private connection such as a sewer lateral access port, sink, toilet, or bathtub. 

To properly drain your pool, attach your drainage hose to your sewer clean-out pipe. The clean-out pipe is usually located by the hose bib, and may be inside a green box.  

Any person who fails or refuses to comply with the above provisions shall be subject to discontinuance of service and/or any penalties and charges assessed for a water waste violation in accordance with North Las Vegas Municipal Code Chapter 13.08 - Water Conservation.
