The City of North Las Vegas has a planned trail network that will total over 70 miles once fully developed.  This network was adopted as part of the 2006 Comprehensive Master Plan, as depicted in the Comprehensive Trails and Bikeways Map.  The City is currently developing a Citywide Trails and Bikeways Master Plan that will result in changes to the currently adopted network.  The purpose for the Citywide Trails and Bikeways Master Plan project is to design a comprehensive network of trails and bikeways and to establish corresponding standards, guidelines, goals, objectives, and policies.  A key component will be the implementation plan, which will define priorities for the location, development and maintenance of trails and bikeways, and include a phasing plan with both short term and long term action strategies. Public meetings regarding the Citywide Trails and Bikeways Master Plan are expected to occur in Fall 2011.

Funding for the city’s current trail development has been provided by the Bureau of Land Management through the sale of public lands as authorized by the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act.   Upon completion, approximately 15 miles of multi-use trails will be available along the Lower Las Vegas Wash and the Upper Las Vegas Wash.  To date, approximately 5 ½ miles have been completed along the Lower Las Vegas Wash, extending from Tropical Parkway southeast to Alexander Road.  An additional 3 ½ miles of multi-use trails are expected to be substantially complete in November 2010 along the Upper Las Vegas Wash, extending from Deer Springs Way south to Craig Road.  Please click here to view a map of the Las Vegas Wash Regional Trail in North Las Vegas and estimated timeframes for completion.

The Las Vegas Wash Regional Trail is located primarily off-street, but in few instances is aligned adjacent to roadways.  The trail consists of a 10’ wide asphalt path that is designated “multi-use,” meaning it can accommodate a variety of users such as walkers, joggers, cyclists, skateboarders, strollers, wheelchairs, etc.  The trails are not intended for motorized use or equestrians.  Trail amenities include landscaping, lighting, trash cans, benches, doggie (trash) stations; trail nodes with shaded rest areas; and trail heads with shaded picnic areas, drinking fountains, and off-street parking.

There is an additional 24 miles of developed multi-use trails in Aliante (located in the northwestern region of North Las Vegas).  The Aliante trail system consists of concrete pathways with a minimum width of 8 feet and landscaping on both sides.  These trails are located adjacent to streets and in drainage facilities.
